Long, lance-shaped leaves emerge green and turn red in bright light or cool temperatures. The foliage has a slight wave on the edges and some crinkle in the leaf. ‘Big Red Bird’ is in the Anthurium genus in the section called Pachyneurium. These are birds-nest anthuriums with a rosette growth habit and the emerging leaves are rolled inward towards the central leaf vein.
